A web proxy server is designed to act as an intermediary between users and the web resources they want to access. One of its key functionalities is caching, which allows it to store copies of frequently accessed web pages and content. When a user requests a page that is already cached, the proxy server can deliver it much faster than if it had to retrieve it anew from the original server.
